How to Build a Skincare Routine on a Student Budget (Without Going Broke or Breaking Out)

How to Build a Skincare Routine on a Student Budget (Without Going Broke or Breaking Out)

“Paano ba ‘to? Gusto ko ng glow-up pero ayoko naman magutom.”

Yan ang una kong nasabi nung sinimulan ko ang skincare journey ko. College student pa lang ako noon—tight ang allowance, limited ang options, at madalas, trial and error lang ang skincare ko. Pero dahil ayoko namang forever oily at acne-prone, I figured out a way to build a simple but effective routine na hindi kailangang mahal.

Kung isa ka rin sa mga estudyanteng gustong mag-alaga ng balat pero tipid-mode, this blog is for you. Here’s my student-tested, budget-approved guide to building a skincare routine that works—without emptying your wallet.

1. Know Your Skin Type First (Libre ‘to!)

How to check:

  • Oily: Makintab buong araw, especially T-zone.

  • Dry: Flaky, tight feeling after washing.

  • Combination: Oily sa ilang parts, dry sa iba.

  • Sensitive: Madaling mamula, reactive sa products.

Walang bayad ang pag-oobserve ng skin mo. Just take 3-5 days to notice how your skin behaves without any products.

2. Start with the Basics – the Skincare Holy Trinity

Pag tight ang budget, less is more. Hindi mo kailangan ng 10-step routine. Focus ka lang sa Cleanse, Moisturize, Protect (CMP)—the holy trinity of skincare.

a. Cleanser – Hanap ka ng gentle, hindi harsh

Huwag kang matakot sa affordable brands. Marami diyang under ₱300 na okay sa skin!

Student-friendly picks:

  • Celeteque Facial Wash – ₱90+ lang sa Watsons.

  • Safi Oil Control Cleanser – around ₱120.

  • Human Nature Balancing Facial Wash – local and natural, ₱100+.

Tip: Kung tight talaga, kahit micellar water muna pang-linis, okay na. Garnier and Nivea have 100ml bottles under ₱150.

Pero truth is, pag hindi moisturized ang skin mo, lalo siyang mag-o-oil up to compensate.

Budget options:

  • Fresh Jeju Aloe Ice Soothing Gel – multi-purpose at ₱200+ lang.

  • iWhite Aqua Moisturizer – ₱25 per sachet. Super sulit!

  • Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer – ₱300+ pero matagal maubos.

c. Sunscreen – Non-negotiable, bes!

Affordable sunscreens:

  • Belo SunExpert Face SPF 50 – ₱350 and super lightweight.

  • QuickFX Sunblock – sachet format, ₱99 lang.

  • Face Republic Purity Sun Essence – ₱399 but non-sticky and fragrance-free.

3. Stick to It for 4–6 Weeks

Most skincare takes at least a month para makita ang full effect.

Student tip: Take selfies every week sa parehong lighting. Doon mo makikita ang gradual glow-up mo.

4. Optional Extras (Kung may konting extra cash)

Kung okay na ang CMP mo and may extra allowance ka (o nakatanggap ka ng GCash gift), you can add:

  • Exfoliator (2x a week lang): A Bonne Milk Salt Scrub – ₱70.

  • Toner: RYX Skin Hydrabomb – ₱150.

  • Spot Treatment: Pond’s Acne Clear – ₱85 sachet.

Remember, optional lang ‘to. Wag mong i-pressure sarili mo bumili agad.

5. Where to Buy Without Getting Scammed

Legit stores for students:

  • Watsons – May student deals, points pa!

  • Shopee/Lazada Flagship Stores – Always check reviews and seller ratings.

  • Department stores like SM or Landmark – Madalas may travel-size promos.

Tip: Look out for Buy 1 Take 1, bundles, or student discounts. Gamitin ang voucher codes sa Shopee/Lazada—minsan ₱50 off pa ‘yan.

6. How to Monetize This Routine (Future You Will Thank You)

If you’re into content creation or kahit gusto mo lang isulat ang skincare journey mo, this is where it gets exciting.

Here’s how you can turn your routine into income:

  • Start a Skin Diary IG/TikTok – Post progress pics, reviews, tips.

  • Use affiliate links from Shopee/Lazada (sign up for Involve Asia).

  • Join skincare groups (like Reddit PH or Facebook groups) to share recos and drive traffic to your blog.

  • Collaborate with local skincare brands—start small, tag them when you post, and build your presence.

Sample monetizable caption:
“Been using this ₱99 sunblock for 3 weeks and my skin LOVES it. 🌞 Full review on the blog! [Affiliate link here]”

7. Real Talk: Skincare ≠ Expensive

Kahit estudyante ka, you can build a skincare routine that makes you feel good and look good—without draining your wallet. Remember: glow-up doesn’t have to mean go broke.

Final Reminder:

  • Don’t compare your skin journey to influencers with ₱10k routines.

  • Learn what works for YOU.

  • And please—wag kang matulog na may makeup.

At ano ang before and after results ko? If you’ve ever been curious but scared to try chemical peels, let me share my story — no filter, no sugarcoating. Let’s go! 📌 First of All, What is a Chemical Peel? A chemical peel is a treatment where you apply a chemical solution (usually acids like AHA, BHA, or TCA) to your skin to exfoliate the top layer . Marami na ngayong mild, at-home versions available — unlike the deep peels na clinic-level. I used a 30% AHA + 2% BHA solution (the red serum na viral) for my first try. 🤔 Why I Tried It To be hon...

My Minimalist Skincare Routine That Still Delivers Results

My Minimalist Skincare Routine That Still Delivers Results Because less really can be more. I used to think that more was always better when it came to skincare. More serums, more steps, more products. I fell deep into the rabbit hole of 10-step routines, weekly exfoliations, and trying every hyped-up product on my feed. At one point, I had a drawer full of skincare—but ironically, my skin wasn’t happy. Breakouts? Check. Redness? Check. That dull, tired look that no amount of serum could fix? Absolutely. And that’s when I realized: maybe, just maybe, I was doing too much . So I did something kind of radical. I stopped. I paused all the layering, all the experimenting. I gave my skin a break—and I went minimalist. Surprisingly? That’s when the healing began. Why I Chose to Simplify This isn’t just about decluttering my bathroom counter or saving money (though that definitely happened, too). This was about listening to my skin . There was one night—I remember it clearly—I was st...
