My First Time Trying a Chemical Peel at Home – Before & After

My First Time Trying a Chemical Peel at Home – Before & After

“Nakakatakot pero worth it?!” – My real experience, besh.

Hi mga ka-Skin Diary! πŸ‘‹πŸΌ
This post is all about my first ever at-home chemical peel experience. Totoo ba talaga ‘yung glass skin effect after peeling? Masakit ba? Safe ba siya gawin sa bahay? At ano ang before and after results ko?

If you’ve ever been curious but scared to try chemical peels, let me share my story — no filter, no sugarcoating. Let’s go!

πŸ“Œ First of All, What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a treatment where you apply a chemical solution (usually acids like AHA, BHA, or TCA) to your skin to exfoliate the top layer. Ang goal nito ay tanggalin ang dull, damaged skin to reveal a smoother, clearer, and more glowing layer underneath.

Marami na ngayong mild, at-home versions available — unlike the deep peels na clinic-level. I used a 30% AHA + 2% BHA solution (the red serum na viral) for my first try.

πŸ€” Why I Tried It

To be honest, I was super hesitant for months. But here’s what pushed me to finally try:

  • Acne scars and texture na ayaw talaga umalis

  • Dull skin kahit kompleto na skincare ko

  • Curiosity (and TikTok influence πŸ˜…)

And of course, nag-research muna ako bago tumalon.

⚠️ My Patch Test & Pre-Peel Prep

Hindi ako nagmadali, besh. I followed these steps first:

✔️ Patch test – I applied a small amount sa jawline area for 10 mins, waited 24 hours. No reaction = go!
✔️ Avoided other actives 2-3 days before (retinol, vit C, etc.)
✔️ Moisturized like crazy para hindi sobrang dry after

πŸ§ͺ The Actual Chemical Peel (Step-by-Step)

Here’s how I did my first at-home chemical peel:

  1. Cleanse – Used a gentle, low pH cleanser

  2. Pat dry – Super dry skin bago mag-apply

  3. Applied the peel – 2-3 drops lang over my face

  4. Left it for 8 minutes only – First-timer ako, so ‘di ko pinuno ang 10 minutes

  5. Rinse with lukewarm water – Walang sabon

  6. Moisturize – Hydration is life after peeling

  7. No actives or exfoliants for 3–5 days after

😱 What It Felt Like (Honest Reaction)

✅ Tingling and mild stinging (1–2 mins lang)
✅ Slight redness after washing
✅ No visible peeling agad — more of microscopic peeling (parang dry patches)

Honestly, hindi siya masakit — nakakakaba lang kasi you’re literally putting acid on your face. πŸ˜‚

πŸ“† The Aftercare: Crucial Part!

Aftercare is EVERYTHING, mga besh. Here’s what I did post-peel:

  • ❌ No sun exposure (as in, indoors lang talaga ako)

  • ✅ Daily sunscreen (kahit sa loob ng bahay!)

  • ✅ Hydrating toner + ceramide moisturizer

  • ❌ No makeup for 3 days

  • ❌ No other actives (vit C, retinol, etc.)

This is when I really felt na gentleness is key.

πŸ“Έ Before & After (7 Days Apart)

BEFORE:

  • Dull and rough texture

  • Tiny closed comedones sa cheeks

  • Visible acne marks from old pimples

AFTER (Day 7):

  • Brighter and smoother skin

  • Faded dark marks (not fully gone, pero lighter)

  • Better product absorption

  • Parang may glow na from within!

Note: Results aren’t instant-glass-skin — but meron talagang noticeable improvement.

πŸ™‹πŸΌ‍♀️ FAQs from My DM’s

Q: Safe ba talaga sa bahay?
πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Yes, as long as you follow directions, do a patch test, and avoid overdoing it.
Once every 7–10 days lang kung first-timer ka.

Q: May balat-balat ba na visible?
πŸ‘‰πŸΌ For me, wala. Micropeeling lang — dry flakes around my nose and chin.

Q: Pwede ba ‘to sa sensitive skin?
πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Dapat extra caution. Try milder exfoliants muna (PHA, lactic acid) and consult if may skin condition ka.

πŸ’‘ My Tips for First-Time Peelers

  1. Start slow. Kahit trending siya, your skin’s safety first.

  2. Don't mix with other actives. Bawal sabay-sabay!

  3. Hydration is key – before and after.

  4. Sun protection is non-negotiable!

  5. Set realistic expectations. Peels help, pero di sila instant miracle.

🧑 Final Thoughts

Trying a chemical peel at home was one of the best decisions for my skincare journey — but only because I prepared, researched, and respected the process.

Don’t do it for hype. Do it because you want to treat your skin better.
And remember: You can’t rush healing. Be patient, beshie. 🫢🏼

My Minimalist Skincare Routine That Still Delivers Results

My Minimalist Skincare Routine That Still Delivers Results Because less really can be more. I used to think that more was always better when it came to skincare. More serums, more steps, more products. I fell deep into the rabbit hole of 10-step routines, weekly exfoliations, and trying every hyped-up product on my feed. At one point, I had a drawer full of skincare—but ironically, my skin wasn’t happy. Breakouts? Check. Redness? Check. That dull, tired look that no amount of serum could fix? Absolutely. And that’s when I realized: maybe, just maybe, I was doing too much . So I did something kind of radical. I stopped. I paused all the layering, all the experimenting. I gave my skin a break—and I went minimalist. Surprisingly? That’s when the healing began. Why I Chose to Simplify This isn’t just about decluttering my bathroom counter or saving money (though that definitely happened, too). This was about listening to my skin . There was one night—I remember it clearly—I was st...
